February 2015 Monthly Letter

Dear Team of Reconcilers through Jesus,

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

On January 9th my wife Jannice and I saw the movie “Selma.” I grew up in Greensboro, Alabama, just 50 miles from Selma. On a visit from our home in New York to Greensboro, Alabama, my cousin, a former teacher, drove my wife and me to Selma and across the Edmund Pettis Bridge to Montgomery. That trip made a great impact on me, even to this day.

As I watched the movie, it was hard seeing Governor George Wallace loudly proclaim, “Segregation yesterday, today and forever!”

However, I was told in detail by one of his former staff members that much later, Governor Wallace called and met with the students that he had blocked from the University of Alabama and apologized to them. His staff member also said that the Governor accepted Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior.

It’s nice to know that even Governor Wallace could change. We all can. And in his next election, 95% of the Alabama black vote went to Governor Wallace.

As God continued to educate me on the topic of race relations and racism, He allowed me to see the broader picture of the sickness and stupidity of it all. I am so thankful for the journey God has taken me on, not only in America, but to Europe, Africa, the Philippines, the Caribbean Islands and South America. I have been exposed to many cultures and people of many different ethnic groups. Our Chapter Leaders reflect it. They are diverse.

Watching the movie “Selma” made me more committed to continuing with this Ministry which God has called us to. How exciting it is to have someone tell me how their life has been changed due to this ministry. And a number have.

It was inspiring to see the great diversity among Dr. King’s supporters!

Thank God for the blessing of the freedoms that we have in this country. And thank you all for your kind support and notes of encouragement that you send with your donations. We look forward to the day when we all will be reconciled to each other.

Love and blessings.
