February 2019 Monthly Letter
Dear ORM Reconcilers,
January is the month we remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy. I like to reflect on his life each year and listen to the different stories that describe how he went about building bridges between people of all creeds and colors.
The following are a few of my favorite quotes from Dr. King:
The time is always right to do what is right.
Life’s more persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing to help others?
Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.
I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.
Never succumb to the temptation of bitterness.
Over the past few weeks, I was very touched to see how many people came together to help others by setting up food banks, opening up restaurants, paying for peoples’ mortgages, providing gas to get to work, and in some cases, paying for medicine. Many people recognized that the time was right to do something right.
Reconciliation is not hard to do; we just need to decide where and when the opportunity is available to do it. Hebrews 13:1-2 (ESV Version) says: “Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
I appreciate Dr. King’s work, and also the great work that all of you are doing. Thank you for your prayers, your comments, and kind donations. They help to keep us going as we continue to do the work of Jesus our Savior.
I would like to end by sharing one of my favorite songs that we always sing at our workshops.
O let us be the generation of reconciliation and peace. And let us be a holy nation where pride and prejudice shall cease. Let us speak the truth in love to the lost and least of these. Let us serve the Lord in unity so others will believe. Let us be the generation of reconciliation and peace.
I love that song and what it means. I look forward to singing it with you all before the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
May God Bless and keep you throughout the new year!
Blessings,
