Dear Reconciler Family,
This month I thought I would share with you one of the highlights of a Ministry of Reconciliation Chapter Leaders’ meeting. We invited guest speaker Pastor Charles Burchett of First Baptist Church in Kirbyville, Texas to share some of his experiences as a reconciler.
One experience that he shared with us was his response as a white man to the James Byrd dragging death by three Klansmen who said they got their ideas from the Bible. Pastor Burchett was so deeply moved and grieved over this tragic incident that he led a march and walked shoulder to shoulder with African Americans. He also led a prayer of reconciliation and redemption at the location that it took place.
Here is what Pastor Burchett said about the Ministry of Reconciliation:
“The Ministry of Reconciliation is on the edge, in the middle, at the places where the Kingdom of Light confronts the kingdom of darkness. These places of reconciliation are places of hurt, anger, bitterness, error, darkness, pride, and separation. As Ambassadors for the Lord Jesus Christ we bring help, peace, forgiveness, truth, light, humility, and unity to those places.”
We had a moving discussion on what reconciliation is all about.
Later, as I walked into my office, Dr. John McKenna came behind me and we struck up a conversation about reconciliation. He said this: “It’s all things being brought in harmony with the Father, through the Son, by the Holy Spirit.”
So this ministry is not just about racial harmony, but harmony of all things in heaven and earth, including the ecology and the cosmos.
May His Spirit continue to lead us in greater harmony with the Father and the Son. As always, thank you for your prayers and loyal support.
Love to you,
Curtis May
