November 2010

Dear Reconciler Family,

For a moment, one moment in time, the world stood still holding its collective breath.  All on the same page, hoping that 33 Chilean miners trapped ½ mile beneath the earth would be rescued alive.  Yes, for a moment we saw the world unified on a common cause.  Awesome!

Richard Villaroel brought to surface (stamfordadvocate.com)

Note what the Psalmist wrote some 3,000 years ago:

How good and pleasant it is
when brothers live together in unity!

It is like precious oil poured on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down upon the collar of his robes.

It is as if the dew of Hermon
were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the LORD bestows his blessing,
even life forevermore.

–Psalm 133:1-3

Rescued miner Richard Villaroel told the Los Angeles Times newspaper reporter Chris Kraul:  “We were waiting for death…I had never prayed, but I learned to pray, to be closer to God.”

And I believe God answered those prayers in a dramatic way!  I happen to believe the words of the old gospel song, “Prayer Changes Things.”  The Apostle Paul wrote, “Pray without ceasing,” 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

We serve in a ministry (of reconciliation) that’s quite demanding, considering its task of trying to bring bickering, divided and often hate-filled parties and factions together in unity.

Yes, the task before us is impossible without prayer and supplication and God’s constant intervention and guidance.  But “with God all things are possible.”  How happy I am to know that!  Thank you for walking with God, and alongside me to help turn division and strife into respect, peace and love.

As we make plans for 2011, I am receiving requests to conduct seminars, workshops and other presentations across the country.  We are also considering expenses for these events, along with production of ORM resources such as Reconcile, monthly letters, administrative costs, website, etc.  Please remember us in your year-end donations and, as always we cherish your prayers and support.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
