Spirit of Unity-Staying the Course

September 2025 Monthly Letter

Dear Reconcilers,

This month’s letter is from contributing writer, Lloyd Briggie, an Elder Emeritus of Grace Communion International church.

Staying the Course

Haven’t we all at times felt swept up in the swirling activities and events of life? When so much is happening all around us and to us, we can feel out of control, and even the word “reconciliation” rings hollow. Where do we turn for some stability, calm, peace and meaningful direction?

Jesus was pointedly clear that “in this world you will have trouble”… and the Spirit, through Paul says that “the whole creation groans”… and even we “groan inwardly” but, “take heart” and “in this hope we were saved.” (John 16:33; Romans 8:22-25, Acts 3:17-21)

This song gives us a clue. [Note some addition of words, vs. 2, vs. 3]

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

Fix your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

Keep your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

When our eyes meet Jesus’ eyes, the joy that was set before Him to endure the cross, the reconciliation of all humanity and restoration of all things, can inspire us to the same joy and hope as we bear our cross. In the face of Jesus, we find purpose and strength and are invigorated as His “Ambassadors of Reconciliation.” (Hebrews 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 5:18-20)
